DONKEY:The 4X4 pickup from the past

Probably the only one left.....

Donkey is not a .....small horse. He does not have the size ,the proudness , the apearance or the special abbilities of a gorgeous horse !Ridding on a donkey is more like walking with someone else's feet !!!But is a grate mistake to compare a donkey with a horse. Is like to put nearby a small 4X4 pickup and a F1 vechile.
Untill a few decades ago ,donkey use to be a very powerfull "tool" for the country people. He use to be their "right hand" for every job on daily basis throughout the year.
Let me explain you how, by describing how life was running in a quiet small village on a small island, somewhere in Aegean Sea.
At first ,I should tell you that my place is "blessed". It means , that is possible to produce everything a man needs to survive. All kind of fruits, vegetables, sereals, legumes, olive oil, home animals and anything you can imagine, i.e. tabacco ect.
Those years that we are talking about, 3-4 decades back, people who lived here did not need to buy enything else exept fish, since we where not near the sea, coffee, some use to make their own kind of coffee from chick pea , and a few other minor things.

Donkey played a very significant role in order to prepare, produce and carry home all the necessary products.
Every house use to have at least two , first because they were used as the main transportation vechile and a couple neede two, and second, it was impossible for one donkey to carry out all the necesary work.
The major tasks of the donkey were:
. ridding
. plowing
. sowing
. threshing
. carrying
. help in pumping water out of wells
. manure for fertilizing
In these major tasks we could easily add several of other minor but essential tasks that helped people to improve their quality of life. In this point we should note that someones used mules too. But although mules are a lot more powerfull than donkeys, they are a very bad character animals and very hard to manipulate, i.e women or kids could not use them.

Donkey is a very low profile animal with very few needs. Plenty fresh water, grass or straw and a litle amount of cereal, is enough to make him strong and happy to carry out his task efficiently.

Donkey belongs to the past... Now only very few left to remaind these good old happy days for him as well as for us......
Now they have replaced by 4x4 cars with all the consequenses...in our pockets and our lives......
